AADE Spokespeople

AADE's spokespersons are a select group of diabetes educators who have agreed to assist media as sources for stories on diabetes. They represent AADE's committment to public education, through the media, of the important role that diabetes educators play in the healthcare system.

Tami Ross, RD, LD, CDE
2013 AADE President

Ross is a nationally recognized speaker and health and nutrition writer who has co-authored many books, including What Do I Eat Now?: A Step-by-Step Guide to Eating Right with Type 2 Diabetes, and Diabetes Meals on $7 a Day or Less. She lives in Lexington, KY.

 

Sandra Burke, PhD, ANP, BC-ADM, CDE, FAADE 
AADE Immediate Past President

Burke is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Urbana Regional Program, with the University of Illinois, College of Nursing in Urbana, IL. 

Donna Tomky, MSN, RN, C-NP, CDE, FAADE

Tomky works in the department of endocrinology and diabetes at the ABQ Health Partners in Albuquerque, NM, where she fills several roles: nurse practitioner, diabetes educator and information specialist.

Kim DeCoste, RN, MSN, CDE

DeCoste is the manager of the Diabetes Center of Excellence of the Madison County (KY) Health Dept where a primary focus is a Medicaid demonstration project, an initiative of the Kentucky Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. She provides care coordination for people with diabetes, and conducts diabetes education and prevention classes, and oversees diabetes prevention and awareness initiatives.

Lorena Drago, RD, MS, CDN, CDE

Drago is senior associate director of Ambulatory Care Nutrition Programs at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, which includes serving as the director of the Diabetes Education Program and the WIC Program. She also maintains her own private practice, and is the owner of Hispanic Foodways, which specializes in creating culturally and ethnically-oriented nutrition and diabetes education materials.

Marcia Draheim, RN, CDE

Draheim is currently the president of Draheim Dimensional Presentations in Cedar Rapids, IA, which develops computerized tools that assist diabetes educators in teaching people about diabetes and its co-morbidities.

Deborah Fillman, MS, RD, LD, CDE

Fillman is the Public Health Director for the Green River District Health Department in Owensboro, Kentucky. In this role, she is responsible for the public health services in a seven county region and 250 employees.

 

Dawn Sherr, RD, CDE

Sherr is a practice manager at AADE, specializing in educational content development and professional practice issues. Previously, she worked with both pediatric and adult patients, and in both the inpatient and outpatient settings as a team member of an accredited diabetes education program.

Evan Sisson, PharmD, MHA, CDE

Sisson is an assistant professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Pharmacy where he teaches pharmacy, nursing and medical students about drug therapy for hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes. His practice settings include a university-based outpatient pharmacotherapy clinic and a local free clinic. In the free clinic, he regularly conducts diabetes education classes.
