President-elect
Marcia Draheim, RN, CDE
Marcia Draheim assumed the role of president-elect of the American Association of
Diabetes Educators (AADE) on January 1, 2008. As president-elect, she serves on the Executive
Committee, providing leadership to AADE, a multi-disciplinary organization of more than 11,000
health professionals dedicated to providing and advocating for quality diabetes self-management
training. She will ascend to the presidency in January 2009.
Draheim is currently the president of Draheim Dimensional Presentations which develops computerized teaching tools that assist diabetes educators in teaching people about diabetes and its co-morbidities. Her company also collaborates and contracts with other healthcare professionals in originating specialized products for their presentation and curriculum needs.
Previously, Draheim was a supervisor at St. Luke’s Hospital Diabetes Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she coordinated the hospital’s core curriculum diabetes program and the gestational diabetes program. She also served as a primary faculty member of the diabetes education program and was a resource for various committees within the hospital and Linn County.
Her nursing experience is comprehensive and varied, including work in orthopedics, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, gynecology, general surgery, dental and facial reconstructive surgery, head and neck cancer and infection control.
Draheim is an adjunct faculty member at three area schools: Coe College School of Nursing, Kirkwood Community College and Cornell College, all in Iowa.
An AADE Board member since 2001, Draheim has been active with AADE since 1984. Over the years, she has been a member of the Finance and Continuing Education Committees, and has shared her wisdom with fellow educators by serving as a general session speaker and presenter at various AADE annual meetings.
Draheim has been active on the local level as well, including membership in the Iowa Diabetes Educators Association and the American Diabetes Association’s Iowa Affiliate. She has also delivered many presentations at the local, state, national and international levels for a variety of healthcare organizations.
Draheim earned her RN diploma from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also a certified diabetes educator.
