Membership

Members

AADE's members are primarily diabetes educators and focus on helping people with diabetes achieve behavior change goals which, in turn, lead to better clinical outcomes and improved health status. It's a multi-disciplinary profession, as diabetes educators are already licensed in a related healthcare field. Most commonly, you will find that they are also nurses/nurse practitioners, dietitians or pharmacists. 

AADE has several member categories:

Active Member

Healthcare professionals with an interest in the development, delivery or administration of diabetes patient or professional education or in diabetes research.  An Active Member shall have the right to vote, to make nominations, and to chair, serve and vote on committees, and other privileges as determined by the Board of Directors.  Active members who are employed by a company that is in the business of sales or marketing of diabetes pharmaceuticals, supplies or equipment shall not be eligible to stand for national elective office or a directorship position.

Associate Member

Person with an interest or involvement in diabetes education who does not qualify for other member categories. An Associate Member shall have the right to vote, to make nominations, and to serve or chair committees. An Associate Member shall not be entitled to stand for a national elective office, or hold a directorship position.

Industry Member

Non-healthcare professionals who are employed by a company that is in the business of sales or marketing of pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, or services to the diabetes market. An Industry Member shall not be entitled to vote, to make nominations, to stand for elective office, to serve or chair committees, or to hold a directorship position. 

Student Member

Any full time student or trainee in any health profession program.  Student membership shall be granted when accompanied by evidence of enrollment in a health profession program. A Student Member shall have the right to vote, to make nominations, and serve but not chair committees. A Student Member shall not be entitled to stand for a national elective office, or to hold a directorship position.

International Member

Healthcare professionals with an interest in the development, delivery or administration of diabetes patient or professional education or in diabetes research who is not a USA citizen/resident. An International Member shall have the right to vote, to make nominations, to serve but not chair committees. An International Member shall not be  entitled to stand for a national elective office, or to hold a directorship position.

MY AADE NETWORK

AADE connects members locally and statewide through MY AADE NETWORK, a centralized resource to meet the evolving needs of diabetes educators’ professional development and relationships. This new approach to member affiliation allows members to form groups around both geographic location and unique areas of interest (Communities of Interest). It allows members to strengthen their professional relationships, build upon best practices in diabetes education and keep up-to-date with industry and regulatory issues.

Communities of Interest

AADE has 20 Communities of Interest (COI) that facilitate the professional development and collaboration of members with common interest in various areas of diabetes self-management education.

AADE has many technical/advisory committees, workgroups and taskforces that assist with various association projects.
