Communities of Interest
The purpose of AADE Communities of Interest (COI) is to facilitate the professional
development and collaboration of AADE members with common interest in specialized areas and
functions of diabetes self-management education and training. The community does not deliver “
products,” but rather is focused on knowledge management.
Starting with dues renewals in 2011, AADE members have the ability to subscribe to as many
COIs as they choose using
MY AADE
NETWORK.
Advanced Practice - The Advanced Practice COI offers information sharing and
networking opportunities to professionals working in or concerned with advanced practice
issues.
African American - The goal of the African American COI is to improve the quality
of life for African Americans living with diabetes, and to increase cultural awareness and offer
guidance to healthcare professionals who provide diabetes care to African Americans.
Asian and Pacific Islander -The Asian and Pacific Islander COI’s goal
is to improve the quality of life for Asian American and Pacific Islanders living with
diabetes, and to increase cultural awareness and offer guidance to healthcare professionals who
provide care to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Camp Educators - The Camp Educators COI provides information sharing and
networking opportunities to professionals interested in diabetes camps across the United
States.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring - The Continuous Glucose Monitoring COI
provides information sharing and networking opportunities with other professionals who are
interested in continuous glucose monitoring.
Disabilities - The goal of the Disabilities COI is to ensure that people
with disabilities have full access to all components of diabetes education and to offer guidance to
healthcare professionals who provide care to people with disabilities.
Foot Care - The Foot Care COI offers information sharing and networking
opportunities with other professionals interested in diabetes-related food care issues.
Hispanic/Latino American - The goal of the Hispanic/Latino American COI is to
improve the quality of life for Hispanic/Latino Americans living with diabetes, and to increase
cultural awareness and offer guidance to healthcare professionals who provide care to
Hispanic/Latino Americans.
Home Health Care Diabetes Educator - The Home Health Care Diabetes Educator COI
provides a forum and networking opportunities for members to share and exchange ideas pertaining to
the ongoing development and changes within the home health setting.
Inpatient Management - The Inpatient Management COI provides a forum and
networking opportunities for members to share and exchange ideas pertaining to the ongoing
development and changes within the hospital setting.
Insulin Pump Therapy - The Insulin Pump Therapy COI offers information sharing and
networking opportunities with other professionals interested in insulin pump therapy.
Integrative Care - The Integrative Care COI offers information sharing and
networking opportunities with other professionals interested in promoting health using the
principles of complementary medicine.
Native American/Indian Health Service - The goal of the Native American/Indian
Health Service COI is to improve the quality of life for Native Americans living with diabetes, and
to increase cultural awareness and offer guidance to healthcare professionals who provide care to
Native Americans.
Office & Clinic Based - The Office and Clinic
Based COI provides a forum and networking opportunities for members working in a
physician's office or clinic.
Pediatric Educator - The Pediatric Educator COI offers information
sharing and networking opportunities with other professionals working with pediatric
patients.
Pharmacy - The Pharmacy COI provides a forum and networking opportunities for
members to share and exchange ideas pertaining to the ongoing development and changes within a
pharmacy-type environment, including community, hospital, long-term care, consultant, faculty or
specialty practice clinic.
Physical Activity - The Physical Activity COI offers information sharing and
networking opportunities with other professionals interested in promoting physical activity’s
function in the prevention of diabetes and as a treatment of choice within the diabetes education
process.
Plant-Based Nutrition for Diabetes - The Plant-Based Nutrition for Diabetes
COI serves as a resource for diabetes educators who want to learn about this therapeutic diet
and implement the option into their practice.
Pregnancy/Reproductive Health - The Pregnancy/Reproductive Health COI offers
information sharing and networking opportunities with other professionals interested in gestational
diabetes issues including prevention of the onset of diabetes in women of childbearing capacity,
and in children of pregnancies complicated by diabetes.
Public Health - The Public Health COI offers a forum and networking
opportunities for members working in or affiliated with the public health setting.
Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense - The Veterans Affairs/Department of
Defense COI provides a forum and networking opportunities for members working or affiliated
with the two federal agencies.
