Physical activity is necessary for diabetes self-care because it can help keep you blood glucose levels closer to normal.

Everyone's physical abilities are different, so you should work with your care team to find out what's best for you. If you're not comfortable participating in something like an aerobics class, even everyday activities such as gardening or walking  may help you get better control of your diabetes. Your diabetes educator can hlep you choose the best ways to fit physical activity into your daily life and medication schedule.

Easy ideas for boosting activity

  • Kick a soccer ball around with your kids
  • Join a local sports club or league
  • Take your dog for a walk or play fetch at the park
  • Call a friend to go dancing or take a leisurely bike ride
  • Meet a neighbor at the corner for a walk each morning
