Medicare Policy Updates
Policy change for beta cell autoantibody tests that qualify Medicare patients for insulin
pumps
CMS has recently clarified its policy criterion for insulin pump coverage to specify that
only the ICA lab test meets the beta cell autoantibody testing criterion for insulin pump coverage.
Patients can qualify for an insulin pump by showing beta-cell autoantibodies, as demonstrated by a
positive ICA test, or through a C-peptide test. Until this clarification was published, Medicare
had covered a range of autoantibody testes, including ICA, IAA, GADA, I-A2, etc. For more
