Awards & Scholarships

2012 Recognition Awards

Applications for the AADE Education and Research Foundation Scholarships and AADE Recognition Awards are available from November until their respective deadlines: March 1, 2012 for Awards and April 2, 2012 for Scholarships. Recipients/winners are announced in May.

Living Legend Award
Recognizes an individual who exemplifies the proud history of diabetes education and serves as extraordinary role model.
 
Allene Van Son Distinguished Service Award
Recognizes outstanding contributions and services to the Association.  
 
Diabetes Educator of the Year Award -Sponsored by LifeScan, Inc. 
Honors a diabetes educator who has made a special contribution to the field through dedication, innovation and sensitivity in patient care. 
 
My AADE Network Achievement Award -Sponsored by BD
This new, transitional award replaces the Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award which will change for 2013. For 2012, current MY AADE NETWORK Board Liaisons will nominate exemplary affiliates, no self-nomination. Application should reflect activities from January 1, 2011 through March 1, 2012 and include details about transition from Chapter to CB.   
 
Innovation in Practice Award - Sponsored by Bayer Corporation
The award supports the development or future implementation of an innovative practice, tool or approach for use in diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T). This award is intended to advance the practice of DSME/T by supporting ways to improve DSME/T, better meet patient needs, and/or resolve critical, complex problems and barriers that are faced by diabetes educators and their patients. Recipient will receive a grant for development of the project. 
 
Advocacy Award - Sponsored by Novo Nordisk, Inc.
The award will recognize an AADE Member, volunteer, or other person that has made significant contributions to AADE Advocacy/legislative efforts. 
 
Rising Star Award  - Sponsored by Roche Diagnostics
Award will recognize a  diabetes educator who has less than three years of diabetes education experience and has demonstrated leadership and commitment in their practice.
 
Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award - Sponsored by dLife 
The award supports the development and/or implementation of a concept for the innovative use of media and technology to advance diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T).  The project should have the potential to significantly improve self-management among individual patient practices or broad diabetes populations.  Recipient will receive a grant for development of the project.

2012 Scholarships

The deadline to submit an application for an Annual Meeting Scholarship is April 2, 2012.

Annual Meeting Scholarships - Provides recipients with complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting. There are two categories this year:

Travel Scholarships  - Sponsored by Sage Publications
Scholarship grants provide funds for travel/accommodations to the Annual Meeting or other educational events.

Pharmacy Student Scholarship  - Sponsored by Diabetes Health Pharmacist
Scholarship for a pharmacy student interested in a career as a pharmacist/diabetes educator, the scholarship is a combination of registration and travel to the AADE Annual Meeting and a one year AADE Membership. 

AADE Foundation Plant-Based Diet Scholarships - Sponsored by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
This scholarship is designed to recognize an educator who demonstrates knowledge of plant-based (vegan) nutrition, and its beneficial role in treating type 2 diabetes, and who has shared this information with people with diabetes under his/her care, resulting in nutritional behavior change and improvements in clinical markers. 

Utah Diabetes Educator Scholarship - Sponsored by Utah Coordinating Body (CB)
Diabetes educators in the State of Utah are eligible for this scholarship, which provides complimentary registration to the AADE Annual Meeting & Exhibition and up to $1000 for travel and accommodations.
