Awards & Scholarships
The applications for the AADE Education and Research Foundation Scholarships and AADE Recognition Awards are only available from December to February of each year. Recipients are announced in June.
Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to AADE members to cover the registration cost of ONE of the following AADE educational programs: the Annual Meeting, Webinars, or Core Concepts Course.
If you choose to apply for an AADE Annual Meeting Scholarship, you may be eligible for a specialty award. If you meet the qualifications, please check the appropriate box on the AADE Scholarship Application.

Julie Betschart Scholarship (must be a pediatric educator or have experience
and/or interest in exercise physiology) Award - registration fee to AADE Annual Meeting

Anthem BC/BS Scholarship (must use internet resources or web-based diabetes
management tools in your practice, and must reside in one of these states: California, Colorado,
Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio,
Virginia, and Wisconsin) Award – registration fee to AADE Annual Meeting
- Suzanne S. Laws Scholarship (applicants must be a Registered Dietitian and a resident of Florida OR involved in community diabetes education) Award - registration fee to AADE Annual Meeting
Recognition Awards

Allene Von Son Award -
Sponsored by Bayer Corporation.
Recognizes diabetes educators who have developed original, outstanding and effective patient
education tools. Includes $500 and a commemorative plaque to a winner in three different
categories.
Diabetes Camp Educator Award
Recognizes a diabetes camp educator who has made special contributions to diabetes camp(s)
through dedicated and innovative support and participation. Includes $1,000 and a commemorative
plaque.
Diabetes Educator of the Year Award
- Sponsored by LifeScan, Inc.
Honors a diabetes educator who has made a special contribution to the field through
dedication, innovation and sensitivity in patient care. Includes $5,000, a $10,000 travel grant and
a commemorative plaque.
Legislative Leadership Award
- Sponsored by Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Recognizes an active member of AADE who has made special contributions to the political
process by participating, promoting and developing legislative advocacy to benefit diabetes
education. Two awards of $1,000 each will be presented at the AADE Annual Meeting &
Exhibition.
Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award
- Sponsored by BD Consumer Products.
Recognizes two chapters (large and small) that have taken leadership roles in diabetes
education and have supported the national organization’s goals. Includes $1,000 and a commemorative
plaque to the winner in each category.
