Why become a BC-ADM?       

The BC-ADM credential speaks to your advanced level of practice and expertise in the management of persons with diabetes.
 
Diabetes Educators who hold the BC-ADM follow the scope of advanced diabetes practice, which includes patient management skills such as medication adjustment, medical nutrition therapy, exercise planning, counseling for behavior management and psychosocial issues. The depth of knowledge and competence in advanced clinical practice and diabetes skills affords an increased complexity of decision making which expands the traditional discipline specific practice. Other responsibilities of advanced practice include; treatment and monitoring of acute and chronic complications, research, and mentoring.

Master’s or higher degree in a relevant clinical, educational, management  area such as, education (med), nutrition, gerontology, advanced diabetes management or other relevant to credential
Experience
500 clinical practice hours within 48 months prior to taking certification examination.
(Clinical hours must be after relevant licensure and advanced degree has been obtained)
Level of practice at Provider Level
Advanced/expert diabetes educators skillfully manage complex patient needs, assisting diabetes patients with therapeutic problem-solving, counseling, and regimen adjustments.

What are the exam Dates and Deadlines?

Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete their applications at least 60 days prior to their desired testing month. There are two testing windows per year - June and December. The deadline for registration for the June window is May 1 and the deadline for the December window is November 1.

How do I renew my certification?

Certification renewal must be completed every five (5) years to maintain your certification. Castle will send candidates reminders by email and U.S. mail six (6) months prior to certification expiration. It is the candidate's responsibility to update Castle with any changes in contact information. You must submit your certification renewal application no later than 45 days prior to your certification expiration. For more information, such as, eligiblity criteria on renewals please review the BC-ADM handbook. You cannot renew with a paper application.
