Why become a BC-ADM?       

The BC-ADM certification validates a healthcare professional's specialized knowledge and expertise in the management of people with diabetes. Practicing within their discipline's scope of practice, healthcare professionals who hold the BC-ADM certification credential adjust medications, treat & monitor acute and chronic complications, provide medical nutrition therapy, help patients plan exercise regimens, counsel patients to manage behaviors and psychosocial issues, participate in research and mentor. The depth of knowledge and competence in advanced clinical practice and diabetes skills affords an increased complexity of decision making which contributes to better patient care.


Are you eligible?

Candidate for the BC-ADM hold a current, active RN, RD, RPh, PA OR MD/DO license in a state or territory of the United States or the professional, legally-recognized equivalent in another country. You must hold a graduate degree from an accredited program and within 48 months prior to applying for this certification exam, complete a minimum of 500 clinical practice hours in advanced diabetes management. What are the exam Dates and Deadlines?

The exam is given twice a year in June and December. Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete their applications at least 60 days prior to their desired testing month. There are two testing windows per year - June and December. The deadline for registration for the June window is May 1 and the deadline for the December window is November 1. You can apply up until the 15th of May and the 15th of November but a late fee will be charged. Please see the BC-ADM handbook for more detail.

What resource can I use to study for the exam?

AADE is now offering a BC-ADM Practice Test. Fee: $95

This is a 75-question Practice test that will help you prepare for the exam. It reflects current exam content and includes items that reflect tasks and knowledge across the eight domain areas of advanced diabetes management. How do I renew my certification?

Certification renewal must be completed every five (5) years to maintain your certification. Castle will send candidates reminders by email and U.S. mail six (6) months prior to certification expiration. It is the candidate's responsibility to update Castle with any changes in contact information. You must submit your certification renewal application no later than 45 days prior to your certification expiration. You cannot renew with a paper application.
