Research Mission & Agenda

AADE promotes research in diabetes self-management training/education and behavior change to advance evidence-based practices. The Association's research agenda is driven by findings from multi-disciplinary summits and in-depth studies, member input and guidance from the AADE Research Committee.

Research Committee Mission

The Research Committee supports the mission of AADE to enhance the practice of diabetes self-management education by gathering evidence and translating the best scientific findings to support behavior change to achieve optimal outcomes.

Research Committee Agenda

In 2002 the AADE Research Committee identified a six-part agenda:

  1. To build an excellent evidence-based foundation regarding self-management behavior interventions and their impact on disease that is accessible to AADE's leadership and members.
  2. To continue providing tools that will strengthen the evidence-base and help articulate the role of the diabetes educator and the AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors to the broader healthcare community.
  3. To create a framework that helps members move research into practice and links to continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts.
  4. To maintain an active and relevant interest in the Annual Meeting research-related sessions that are generated through the call for and review of research abstracts and sessions.
  5. To collaborate with other heath-related organizations with the dual aims of deepening the evidence base for diabetes self management education and establishing a sustainable model of diabetes education delivery in chronic care.
  6. To expand the Reviewer Registry and make it easier to select highly qualified reviewers for research-related projects.
