2013 Scholarships

We encourage educators to apply for our scholarship opportunities. SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED ON TUESDAY, MAY 21.

Annual Meeting Scholarships - These provide recipients with complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting.
The deadline for applications is April 19, 2013.

There are two annual meeting registration scholarships this year:

Travel Scholarship - Sponsored by Sage Publications
Scholarship grants provide funds for travel/accommodations to the Annual Meeting or other educational events.

AADE Foundation Plant-Based Diet Scholarship - Sponsored by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
This scholarship is designed to recognize an educator who demonstrates knowledge of plant-based (vegan) nutrition, and its beneficial role in treating type 2 diabetes, and who has shared this information with people with diabetes under his/her care, resulting in nutritional behavior change and improvements in clinical markers.

Pharmacy Student Scholarship - Sponsored by the AADE Pharmacy Community of Interest (COI)
Current PharmD students in their 3rd and 4th years are eligible. Applicants must demonstrate and interest in diabetes self-management education. Two scholarships will be awarded, each for $750 to be used for travel and registration to the 2013 AADE Annual Meeting.

Utah Diabetes Educator Scholarship - Sponsored by Utah Coordinating Body (CB)
Diabetes educators in the State of Utah are eligible for this scholarship, which provides complimentary registration to the AADE Annual Meeting & Exhibition and up to $1000 for travel and accommodations.

Pennsylvania Diabetes Educator Scholarship - Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Coordinating Body (CB)
Diabetes educators in the State of Pennsylvania are eligible for this scholarship, which provides $1,000 towards registration and travel to the 2013 AADE Annual Meeting.

2013 Recognition Awards

Applications for AADE Recognition Awards have been extended through March 8, 2013.  Recipients/winners are announced in May.

Note: The Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award deadline is extended to March 15.

Living Legend Award
Recognizes an individual who exemplifies the proud history of diabetes education and serves as extraordinary role model. A $5,000 donation to the AADE Education and Research Living Legend Fund is made in honor of the recipient.

My AADE NETWORK Coordinating Body Acheivement Award -Sponsored by BD
To recognize the activities of an AADE Coordinating Body (CB) which significantly advanced and enhanced the MY AADE NETWORK Model in its state.  Coordinating Body leaders may apply/nominate their own state this year

Innovation in Practice Award - Sponsored by Bayer Corporation
The award supports the development or future implementation of an innovative practice, tool or approach for use in diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T). This award is intended to advance the practice of DSME/T by supporting ways to improve DSME/T, better meet patient needs, and/or resolve critical, complex problems and barriers that are faced by diabetes educators and their patients. Recipient will receive a grant for development of the project.
 
Advocacy Award - Sponsored by Novo Nordisk, Inc.
The award will recognize an AADE Member, volunteer, or other person that has made significant contributions to AADE Advocacy/legislative efforts. 
 
Rising Star Award  - Sponsored by Roche Diagnostics
Award will recognize a  diabetes educator who has less than three years of diabetes education experience and has demonstrated leadership and commitment in their practice.
 
Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award - Sponsored by dLife 
The award supports the development and/or implementation of a concept for the innovative use of media and technology to advance diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T).  The project should have the potential to significantly improve self-management among individual patient practices or broad diabetes populations.  Recipient will receive a grant for development of the project.
