The 2010 Call For Abstracts is now closed.
The Annual Meeting Program Committee thanks you for submitting an abstract to be considered for
presentation in San Antonio. Interactions with colleagues on diabetes management and education are
the cornerstone to building communications that allow all of us to provide better healthcare.
Applicants will be notified about the status of their abstract of submission during the month
of February. Final selections will be based on the quality and clarity of the abstract, as well as
the relevance of the described content to the contemporary practice environment of the diabetes
educator.
The overall goal for this meeting is to explore organizations and systems that can be
utilized as community partners to support diabetes prevention and self management through public
health, prevention and lifestyle management. Your presentation at the 37th Annual Meeting will be
an excellent opportunity for you to share your experiences with the diabetes education
community.
Thousands of diabetes educators and other healthcare professionals will gather at the
Annual Meeting and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas August 4-7, 2010. The 37th AADE Annual Meeting
is expected to be a successful educational event and an opportunity to exchange the latest
information with diabetes educators from around the United States. This year’s theme is: Changing
Lives – Building Knowledge – Creating Opportunities.
Annual Meeting program objectives:
- To implement effective community models of self management that
facilitate lifestyle modification to help prevent or delay chronic disease and improve
outcomes.
- To establish innovative partnerships that promote chronic disease
management through measurable outcomes.
- To describe new methodologies used to support and enhance the
quality of patient centered care
Call for abstract categories:

Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, and Clinical Guidelines
Sessions will address competencies needed for individuals to demonstrate
familiarity with pathophysiology, epidemiology, and clinical guidelines and will also include
cutting edge clinical information to enhance your ability as a practitioner.

Culturally-Competent Supportive Care Across the Lifespan
Sessions will address competencies needed to provide diabetes support and care in a
culturally competent manner across the lifespan including strategies for meeting the needs of
specific populations such as specific ethnicities and cultures, people affected by health
disparities, people with disabilities, aging population, youth and gender-specific
issues.

Teaching and Learning
Sessions will address competencies needed to apply principles of teaching and
learning and/or behavior change to facilitate self-management skills of individuals with
diabetes including educational strategies that promote the successful adoption of self care
behaviors necessary for diabetes management and prevention.

Self-Management
Sessions will address competencies needed to work with an interdisciplinary
diabetes care team to tailor interventions to individual patient self-management education
needs.

Program and Business Management
Sessions will address competencies needed to apply principles of program and/or
business management to create a climate that supports successful self-management of
diabetes. These sessions will be relevant to managers, entrepreneurs, or those
interested in pursuing new roles and ventures in innovative education delivery models,
reimbursement, quality accreditation, continuous quality improvement and other business and
leadership skills.
