2010 Educational Session Tracks
AADE has identified competencies for diabetes educators for knowledge, skills, and abilities
needed for the various components of practice. These components have been clustered into five
educational tracks. These track descriptions have been developed to reflect the knowledge and
skill needed by providers at various levels across the continuum of care according to AADE
competencies for diabetes educators.

Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, and Clinical Guidelines
Sessions will address competencies needed for individuals to demonstrate familiarity
with pathophysiology, epidemiology, and clinical guidelines and will also include cutting edge
clinical information to enhance your ability as a practitioner.

Culturally-Competent Supportive Care Across the Lifespan
Sessions will address competencies needed to provide diabetes support and care in a
culturally competent manner across the lifespan including strategies for meeting the needs of
specific populations such as specific ethnicities and cultures, people affected by health
disparities, people with disabilities, aging population, youth and gender-specific issues.

Teaching and Learning
Sessions will address competencies needed to apply principles of teaching and learning and/or
behavior change to facilitate self-management skills of individuals with diabetes including
educational strategies that promote the successful adoption of self care behaviors necessary for
diabetes management and prevention.

Self-Management Education
Sessions will address competencies needed to work with an interdisciplinary diabetes care
team to tailor interventions to individual patient self-management education needs.

Program and Business Management
Sessions will address competencies needed to apply principles of program and/or
business management to create a climate that supports successful self-management of diabetes. These
sessions will be relevant to managers, entrepreneurs, or those interested in pursuing new roles and
ventures in innovative education delivery models, reimbursement, quality accreditation, continuous
quality improvement and other business and leadership skills.
2010 Educational Session Formats
The AADE Annual Meeting & Exhibition educational program is comprised of
different formats to add variety to the total meeting experience.
Sessions, Corporate Symposia and Product Theatres are open to participants on a
first-come, first-served basis.

General Sessions
General Sessions are plenary sessions offered each morning, Wednesday through Saturday.
The meeting officially opens on Wednesday morning with the Keynote Address, and concludes on
Saturday afternoon.

Concurrent Breakout Sessions
Concurrent Breakout Sessions are 90-minute presentations on selected topics offering
continuing education credit. These sessions begin Wednesday morning and continue through Saturday
afternoon. Detailed descriptions and schedules of Concurrent Breakout Sessions will be posted on
our website. NOTE: Research sessions have more than one presentation per hour. attendance at all
presentations is required to obtain credit for the session.

Poster Presentations
Posters are visual displays that may include graphics, photos, charts and diagrams
offering the viewer another venue for sharing information. All posters will be on display in the
convention center Wednesday afternoon through Saturday. You can engage in one-on-one conversations
with the author(s) and ask questions about their project or findings on Wednesday, August 4, during
the Welcome Poster Reception from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. NOTE: Registered Dietitians are eligible to
receive continuing education hours for poster viewing. Hours are self-claimed during the license
renewal process.

Corporate Symposia
Corporate Symposia sessions are 90-minute accredited continuing education programs that
provide information on a specific area of diabetes care and education. These sessions are designed
with fair balance of presentation on therapy options, practical applications to clinical practice,
and/or care and education of persons with diabetes. All programs are supported by educational
grants provided by industry partners. Corporate Symposia are offered on Thursday, August
5 in the afternoon and Friday, August 6 in the afternoon and evening.

Product Theatres
Product Theatres are 60-minute programs that showcase industry-related information on
products or research in an in-depth and exciting way. Product Theatres are offered on Wednesday,
August 4, and are sponsored by industry partners. CE credit is NOT available for these
sessions.
