The goal of the ADCES Online CORE Concepts® Course is to increase knowledge of the diabetes disease state, sharpen clinical management skills and highlight diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) techniques and tools that are most appropriate for assuring successful outcomes to the ADCES7 Self-Care BehaviorsTM.
Over 9 weeks, participants will explore the scientific basis for diabetes education and care while applying concepts through interactive case studies and online discussion. The course includes four reading weeks and five discussion weeks, including pre-work reading that will be required prior to the official start of the session.
The discussion weeks will focus on the review of case studies and interaction on the online communication forum. Registrants can expect course information to be emailed approximately one week before the start of the session with online access provided a few days before the official start of the session. (18 CE)
It is recommended for health care professionals who have at least 2 years of experience in diabetes education and who know that online learning is a suitable fit with their learning style. Access to The Art and Science of Diabetes Care and Education (5th Edition) is required for this course. (This textbook is not included with course registration.
