2018 President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) Donna Ryan Challenges Diabetes Educators to be a Voice

Jan 31, 2018

On Saturday, January 20 Donna Ryan, MPH, RN, CDE, FAADE was officially recognized by the AADE Board of Directors as the 2018 President. Ryan took the opportunity to challenge all diabetes educators and healthcare professionals to be a voice, not an echo, for change in the healthcare landscape.

“I am committed to strengthening and escalating the voice of the diabetes educator, AADE, and most importantly, the voice of the people we are dedicated to helping: those with, at risk for, or affected by diabetes,” said Ryan. “It is their voice we need to include and listen to, support and act on. How else will we know if we are addressing what is important to them and truly providing person-centered care? And with so many dramatic changes taking place in healthcare right now, never before has it been so critical that we speak out as leaders in diabetes care.”

Ryan brings more than 20 years of experience in diabetes education and volunteerism to her 2018 presidency. She has volunteered with AADE in some form for more than 15 years. She has worked from California to Florida in a variety of roles, from large urban healthcare systems to small rural clinics. Her main focus and passion is total population health, improving the health of thousands of people with diabetes one patient at a time.

Ryan currently serves as a Director of Community Health and Outreach for Sacred Heart and Providence Health Systems in Northwest Florida and South Alabama, where she manages diabetes education and prevention programs within Ascension Health. Follow Ryan on Twitter at @DonnaRyanCDE.
