Upcoming Events: Diabetes Prevention Program Preconference Workshop as part of the World Diabetes Congress
AADE Members Receive Complimentary Registration
Diabetes Prevention has taken center stage with the recent decision by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ to cover diabetes prevention services for Medicare beneficiaries starting in 2018.
A preconference workshop, free to AADE members, will provide an in-depth overview of the Diabetes Prevention Program and opportunities for diabetes educators to offer those services in the future. The details:
What: Diabetes Prevention Preconference Workshop. It is part of the larger World Congress on the Prevention of Diabetes and its Complications
When/Where: December 2, 2016, at the Georgia World Congress Center 285 Andrew Young International Blvd, Room A401, in Atlanta, Georgia.
9:00am – 10:00am: Ann Albright, PhD, RD, director of the CDC Division of Diabetes Translation, will provide an overview of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP).
10:00am – noon: Joanna Craver DiBenedetto, MNM, BS, director of Prevention with AADE, will cover the diabetes educators’ role in the National DPP and describe AADE’s model for the program.
Noon – 1:00pm: Diabetes Educator Sue McLaughlin will discuss preventing diabetes using programs other than the National DPP.
Continuing Education: Nurses, Dietitians and Pharmacists will receive 4 CE hours.
Additional Information: Lunch will be on your own.
