New CDC Campaign Cautions Against Sharing Insulin Pens
CDC’s One & Only Campaign aims to ensure patients are protected each and every time they receive a medical injection, including those from insulin pens. In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration issued an alert to healthcare providers that insulin pens are not to be shared. Unfortunately, there continue to be reports of insulin pen sharing, which puts patients at risk of getting blood borne and bacterial illnesses including hepatitis and HIV.
