Medical and Nutritional Treatment Trends in the Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Continuum at ADCES21

May 20, 2021

By Sara (Mandy) Reece, PharmD, CDCES, BC-ADM, BCACP, FADCES

ADCES21 is a great opportunity for diabetes care and educational specialists to enhance their professional toolkits in our new virtual world. With six education tracks and special focus days covering topics like therapeutic inertia, models of care, tech innovations and the ADCES7 Self-Care Behaviors™, there is something for everyone. The Annual Conference Planning Committee worked tirelessly to select the most-relevant speakers and topics to deliver a virtual event that cannot be missed.

Lifestyle management is a key cornerstone of prediabetes and diabetes management. However, it is important to remember that these conditions do not occur in a silo but rather with comorbidities with the potential for complications. Our subcommittee selected sessions within the Diabetes and the Cardiometabolic Continuum track that examine new trends in the medical and nutritional treatment of cardiometabolic conditions, such as gastroparesis, heart failure and other complications. There are a few among 15 great sessions throughout the conference dedicated this important topic. Sessions include:

  • Nutrition and Cardiometabolic Health: Which Meal Plan Works Best and Why?
Review various plant-based eating patterns with a comparison of various studies and why each one improves cardiometabolic outcomes.
  • Diabetes Prevention Program: Lessons Learned During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Learn how programs adapted to our virtual world. This session will be immensely valuable for DPP leaders and facilitators.
  • The Diabetes Care and Education Specialist’s Role in Management of Complications and Common Co-Conditions
Optimize the impact of the diabetes care and education specialist in the care and health of the person with diabetes with these clinical pearls.
  • Comprehensive Medication Management Team-Based Cardiometabolic Care

  • GLP-1 Agonists and SGLT-2 Inhibitors: Cardiometabolic and Renal Protection
