Change has become synonymous with the healthcare environment and the diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) profession. While DSMES programs continue to adapt to these rapid changes and it’s clear that diabetes educators are a valuable part of the diabetes healthcare team, there is a need to further define the role of educators both now and into the future.
With help from strategic branding partner Movéo, AADE set out to define a long-term vision for the profession. The project kicked off at AADE17, where we spoke with various key groups including AADE board members, members of industry, AADE fellows, and individual AADE members to develop a true sense of the profession. Next, we held in-depth interviews with nine key stakeholders to gain further insight. This comprehensive gathering of perspectives will form the basis of a series of formalized quantitative and qualitative research studies that will capture important patient, provider and payer perceptions.
AADE is excited and optimistic about this project and looks forward to positioning diabetes educators to succeed for years to come.
