Don't forget the Alamo!

May 26, 2015

I just returned from the Annual Meeting in San Antonio, and I have to say it was wonderful! The location was great, the people were wonderful, and the education was phenomenal. There were a few interesting things this year that caused quite a bit of excitement and buzz. For those of you who were unable to make it to the conference, I wanted to share some things of interest.

One topic of conversation was AADE's acquisition of the BC-ADM credential. At this time, the association is deciding what should and will happen with the credential, but nothing has been finalized yet. I was surprised to learn that Clinical Nurse Specialists will be greatly affected if the credential is not continued because this is the certification which currently allows them to prescribe and practice.

Another newsflash was that AADE chapters will no longer be formed. Instead, the MY AADE NETWORK has been created to allow for greater networking through a new membership structure. I signed up during the conference and encourage others to do the same. Also, I was amazed about the importance of social networking and created a Facebook account as soon as I got home.

One thing that I noticed was that it seemed like people weren't taking the time to talk to the vendors in the Exhibit Hall. The vendors are crucial to the success of the conference, and I always try to visit all the booths to ensure they will want to return every year. If you did attend the conference, what did you think of the Exhibit Hall? Did you find out about any new products or information?

Please share your thoughts regarding the BC-ADM, MY AADE NETWORK, and the Exhibit Hall. Or, just tell us what you enjoyed about the conference!

I hope to see even more members at next year’s conference in Las Vegas!

I believe the AADE's new membership structure will provide members greater opportunities to connect with each other individually or in groups. With MY AADE NETWORK, members can access CE programs all over the states without leaving their home. In addition, members can join many specialty practice programs (SPG) with only one membership fee! The conference in San Antonio was well planned and very productive from the didactic presentations to the exhibits. I am very pleased with the amount of knowledge I acquired and amy saving my pennies to attend the next one in Las Vegas.

I think the time in the exhibit hall was very limited, therefore I did not have the opportunity to speak with many vendors and learn about new products, I have found this to be the case the past few years. The exhibit hall appeared empty.

Dawn, I too would have liked for the Exhibit Hall to have opened earlier. Perhaps if more of us voice an interest, AADE might consider extended hours at next year's conference.

I attended the meeting on the BC-ADM and due to the uncertainty surrounding the certification, I have to decided to sit for the CDE exam. At this point in time it is the more recognized of the two certifications. I was definitely disappointed, and feel anxious for the CNS"s who need this certification for continued employment.

I am a CNS in TX and I need an advanced certification for my practice. I really hope the Board will recogize that the BC-ADM has filled a niche for CNS Diabetes Specialists, and the certification needs to stay.

I did attend the annual meeting this year. I found it difficult to spend time in the exhibit hall this year. My focus was attending all of the sessions so I could get the continuing education credits. I would have loved to spend more time in the exhibit hall to see all of the products the vendors had to offer, but there just wasn't time, and when there was it was closed. Maybe next year more time could be allowed for visiting the exhibit hall that does not conflict with the sessions.
