Getting fired up for AADE14

Jul 29, 2014

Where can you find a meeting that brings together physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, registered dietitians, physician assistants, physiologists, optometrists, physical therapists, and podiatrists for four days of diabetes education? Of course, the AADE14 meeting in Orlando, Florida!  I am not able to attend the AADE14 meeting, but I am excited to listen to the great presentations through the Virtual Meeting.

First, I love the slogan for the AADE14 meeting – “Refresh. Recharge. Renew.”  I think it is a great slogan due to the location of the meeting, as Orlando is a great place to visit for a conference.  Also, the variety of education sessions and keynote speakers clearly match the slogan for the meeting – any attendee will leave the meeting feeling refreshed, recharged, and renewed with new information about diabetes education and management.

Second, I am excited to listen to the keynote speakers – Jonathan Oberlander, Martha Funnell, Angela McBride, and Carolyn Clancy.  From these keynote speakers, attendees should be left energized about how to impact patient education through self-management strategies; change the medical world as a leader in diabetes educations; and how to empower patients through unique strategies.

Lastly, there are ten relevant and hot topics chosen for the education on-demand sessions for the Virtual Meeting.  Among these choices, I will definitely be listening to Patty Telgener, who will be providing a session on the reimbursement strategies.  This session will have useful information as the healthcare system is constantly evolving under the Affordable Care Act.  I am excited to learn about “Nutrition Adequacy of Various Popular Diets” from Christina Roth and Meghan Jardine and “New Weight Management Strategies to Prevent Disease Progression in Adolescents” from Craig Johnston and Patricia Kearney.  Both of these presentations will benefit me greatly in patient education, but also teaching students who are the future practitioners in the health care system.

If you are not attending the AADE meeting in Orlando, what are you most looking forward to at the Virtual Meeting?
