Having Fun in Vegas

Aug 05, 2011

My blog yesterday was about all of the great educational experiences available at Annual Meeting. But, let’s be honest. A big part of attending the meeting is the fun! It is a way to visit a new city, meet up with friends and make new ones, and go to great events!

The Welcome Reception with Posters on Wednesday kicked it off. Then, there was the Beach Party and the Irish Coffee on Thursday. Networking, drinks, snacks, and dancing! But, since we are in Vegas, I want to tell you about one of my favorite things to see here.

Don't forget to have fun while you're in Vegas for ... on Twitpic The Lights of Bellagio combine music and synchronized dancing water fountains. There is a show every 15 minutes in the evening rotating through a few different songs. Getting there from Mandalay Bay is a bit of a walk; almost 2 miles. In Vegas distance, it is 7 hotel/casinos away. It is a fun walk if you are up for it.

But, there is another way to get there. Take the tram from Mandalay Bay or the Luxor to the Excalibur, cross over the road to New York, New York, and walk down the block to the Monte Carlo. There is a tram in this casino, hidden toward the back so follow the signs and/or ask someone. This takes you past Aria, behind the Cosmopolitan, to the Bellagio. Once inside, you can walk to the lobby to see the beautiful glass sculpture on the ceiling (Fiori Di Como by Dale Chihuly). Then go to the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (behind the lobby). Last stop, the fountains in front of the hotel. Bring your camera and enjoy.

Friday and Saturday nights are open nights at the Annual Meeting so think about taking a stroll, or a ride, to the fountains.

Do you have another favorite thing to do for fun during Annual Meeting? Or when you are in Vegas? What is it?

I absolutely love Vegas, and was disappointed to be unable to attend this year's meeting. My favorite leisure activities in Las Vegas would definitely have to be the many different varieties of performing arts and live entertainment. Neither my husband nor myself are gambling types, and he doesn't drink. While I only live an hour away from New Orleans, I don't get over to the city much and relish the chance to get out and enjoy myself whenever the AADE or any other professional organization of which I am a member holds conventions, meetings and expositions in America's entertainment capitol.
