Introducing Kirsten Yehl, AADE's New Education and Research Grant Manager

Nov 14, 2017

My first few months here at AADE, as the new Research and Education Grants Manager, have been a whirlwind. Our Diabetes Prevention Program continues to grow, with the kick-off of the new CDC-sponsored Diabetes Prevention Program, and our publications are booming. From members to staff, AADE is full of active and passionate people really making a difference in the resources offered to people with diabetes. I am honored to be a part of this team.

I joined AADE in September with a broad background in research and education. I have a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in library and information science from Dominican University, and am completing a second master’s degree in predictive analytics at Northwestern University. I spent the last 14 years of my career in a succession of positions at Northwestern University in health services and public health. Prior to that, I was at Arthur Andersen in the global technology organization.

The move to AADE offers so many exciting opportunities. With my background and experience, I hope to bring value to AADE by connecting our members to beneficial information and resources. In addition, I hope to create opportunities for research and education collaborations across the organization. The outcomes from much of our research in diabetes education is policy change, and the advocacy group here at AADE has had a tremendous impact on policy over the past few years. As our organization continues to grow, and the need for increased diabetes education and prevention services expands, I look forward to opportunities to partner with all of you, members and staff alike!

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to meet all of you at some point. I live in Chicago full-time with my two teenage boys. I’m an avid board game player; most people don’t know that I’m usually ranked in the top 50 players worldwide on the European Ticket to Ride board. If you play, shoot me an email and we can play sometime! Day to day, I’m always trying something new: pottery, stained glass, sailing, and the list goes on. I like to get my hands dirty, spend time with friends, and keep life interesting.
