My name is Lisa Hodgson and I am the incoming Member Affiliates Liaison on the AADE Board of Directors. I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator. As the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Saratoga Hospital in Upstate New York, my responsibilities include management of inpatient and outpatient nutrition and eiabetes education services. I became interested in becoming a CDE through my outpatient work when I saw the need for ongoing diabetes education and support working with patients and their families. I have found this career most rewarding. My passion for the patients I serve and the profession in which I work have only grown over time.
I became involved with AADE years ago when I attended my first annual conference. The energy and enthusiasm at that conference was unlike anything I had experienced, and I became a regular attendee. I worked with a colleague to educate our independent educators' group about the value of joining AADE as a Local Networking Group (LNG). I became the leader of the LNG a few years later, and I attended the AADE State CB Leadership Conference while serving in that role. What a wonderful experience! It was a great opportunity to network with AADE Board members, staff and other volunteer leaders. I learned so much about AADE programs and resources. As part of my work with the LNG, I attended State CB meetings and currently serve as the State CB Secretary until the end of the year. In addition, I am a member of the Inpatient Management, Diabetes Technology, Office and Clinic Based and Diabetes Prevention Communities of Interest and find them to have a wealth of information.
The time I have volunteered with AADE has been most valuable to me. I have met so many interesting and hard-working educators who have enriched my life and my practice.
I look forward to working with you and would love to hear from you. Your feedback, suggestions and concerns are always welcome and appreciated. What an exciting time to be an AADE volunteer!
