Every year, AADE carves out the first full week of November to highlight the importance of diabetes educators and your contribution to the health of people with diabetes. We also work to provide diabetes educators with new tools and resources.
This year we’re highlighting the importance of mental health. There is a clear link between diabetes and mental health, yet many struggle in silence making diabetes self-management more difficult. As a front-line member of the diabetes care team, you are in the unique position to foster conversations that support those affected by mental health challenges.
Take a few moments to explore our newly compiled resources dealing with this critical topic. In it you’ll find our new practice paper, A Practical Approach to Mental Health for the Diabetes Educator, interviews with experts, a series of patient education handouts, a useful infographic, educational courses and relevant AADE journal articles. Find them at www.DiabetesEducator.org/mentalhealth.
