It is difficult to try to sum up a two-day experience in just a few words. Where do I start? This year’s ADCES Leadership Forum was incredible. Coordinating Body (CB) and Local Networking Group (LNG) leaders from across the country came together to learn, practice, network — and yes, even dance!
This two-day event, generously sponsored by Xeris Pharmaceuticals, and hosted by none other than Steve Rauchenecker and Liz Catalano, our ADCES Member and Volunteer Relations Director and Manager, started with a bang and the excitement and momentum lasted until the next day when we all had to part our ways, a bit early I might add, due to the snow storm in Chicago.
First on the agenda was a warm welcome from our 2020 President Kelli Antinori-Lent and CEO, Chuck Macfarlane. Both Kelli and Chuck outlined the ADCES Vision and gave us a brief update on the strategic plan and rebranding efforts. Next on the agenda we were fortunate to have the team from the Brand Consultancy, CEO, Diane Beecher; Chief Research Officer, Jen Layton; and Chief Creative Officer, JP Peters, who discussed our transformation, the data that supported the repositioning of our specialty and the renaming and rebranding of our association, as well as how we will bring our new brand to life with the ultimate goal of allowing the Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (DCES) to provide better outcomes for people with diabetes. Their presentation was motivating and interactive. You could feel the positive energy in the room from all the volunteer leaders. Their presentation served as the springboard for a fabulous forum to brainstorm and network with other leaders to spread the word and increase awareness of our new brand and vision for our specialty.
Next we heard from Nikki Haton Shanks from the Association Laboratory. Nikki guided us through solutions to implement and improve engagement amongst the DCES community. Nikki’s presentation led to wonderful opportunities, throughout the forum, to work with our fellow CB and LNG leaders to share best practices in the area of membership growth and retention, event planning to enhance revenue, and the need and opportunities to grow the next generation of local and national leaders.
In the afternoon our very own ADCES Online Community Program Manager, Kevin Shaefer presented our new Higher Logic platform that will be replacing our “MY AADE NETWORK” in March. This new website is easy to use and intuitive to our volunteer leader’s needs. Kevin is clearly an expert in this field and is willing and able to assist all of us when the new website is up and running.
One of the highlights of the forum was our “Dance” segment led by our very own 2020 President Kelli Antinori-Lent. Kelli reinforced the need for movement, not only for our overall health, but to enhance creative energy and thinking. It was both fun and entertaining.
After two-days, many were not ready to leave. The forum was so informative, many felt like we were just getting started, however, the weather in Chicago had other plans for us. We ended the forum as wiser CB and LNG leaders, energized about the renaming and rebranding, enthusiastic about our vision for the specialty and last but not least, many of us left with new friends. I know I cannot wait until we are all together again. I hope we keep this energy going by posting online in our Communities of Interest, and on the new Higher Logic Platform. Let’s keep the energy alive!!!
