As more and more people with diabetes and the clinicians that care for them use technology for ongoing diabetes management decisions, diabetes educators have become expert in downloading and reviewing data from a variety of sources.

Since we work directly with people with diabetes to help them understand and navigate technological advances in diabetes, we have become the driving force behind making sense of the data and translating the details into patterns to tailor diabetes self-management regimens.

Until DANA, information that informs patient selection and training in the use and downloading of devices that support diabetes management have not been readily available. In addition, resources to gain cutting edge information such as current guidelines, scientific papers and reviews of diabetes apps required searching in various locations and reaching out to key opinion leaders and listservs.

With the roll-out of DANA in August, AADE has provided diabetes educators with an exciting opportunity to experience “one-stop shopping” to access a comprehensive technology database that offers:

  • Information on emerging research and reviews of diabetes-related devices and mobile apps
  • Technology-focused continuing education and device training opportunities
  • Access to a repository of curated market intelligence and evidence-based information
  • Participation in ground breaking research

As senior editor of the DANA Editorial Board, I am excited to play a key role in the ongoing expansion of content on the DANA website as diabetes educators strive to learn more and more about the power of technology in diabetes care and how we can integrate new knowledge acquired from DANA resources into our practice.

I encourage each of you to visit DANA often at and learn about new FDA device approvals, recent technology-focused papers in peer reviewed journals and multi-media educational opportunities. Remember, DANA is still in its infancy and we welcome member feedback in ways to make DANA grow to be the only resource you need to go to for all things diabetes technology.
