More Products from the AADE11 Exhibit Hall

Oct 21, 2011

I know it's been a while since the Annual Meeting, but in my last blog I started to share with you some of the new products that were exhibited at AADE11. I promised you a few more, so here they are:

Clemmy’s Rich and Creamy Ice Cream – this is a premium ice cream (meaning it has the required amount of cream, according to the owner) which claims it is the ONLY sugar free ice cream. There are 8 flavors and the nutrition content states that most have 20 – 22 gms of carbs per ½ cup serving. The 2 samples I had were very creamy and tasty. For more information, you can visit them online at

Walden Farms - Offered samples of their syrups, spreads and dressings. Several of my patients LOVE their pancake syrup. The company will send free samples.

Cary’s Sugar Free Syrup - I had samples of their tasty product. They area also very generous with samples.

Zevia All Natural Sodas (sweetened with Stevia) - This was a new product for me! There are about 9 different flavors, and if you contact them, they are very willing to send samples and coupons for health fairs or patient education.

FlatOut - One of the new bread products available now. On their flyer it states it has 90 calories, 60% less net carbs and is “2 points” in PointsPlus by Weight Watchers. It was quite tasty. You can get more info at

Milner-Fenwick is an old favorite and they introduced their 2011 Diabetes Patient Education Media Catalogue. They also have newly updated PowerPoint Presentations and Diabetes Patient Handouts.

Also interesting was Sticky Jewelry which has a wide variety of ID bracelets, chains, pendants and dog tags. You can get more info at

This is definitely not an all inclusive list. There were close to 300 exhibitors and no way that I can list them all. But I wanted to share with you a few that I thought you might find interesting and informative for your clients. Keep your eyes open while perusing journals or websites for items you think might benefit your patients. I think discussing new products with patients falls into Problem Solving section of the AADE7 and may be just what motivates your patient to improve their self care.

Are there any new products out that you are loving? Share them with me!

Mary-Jo, In response to your concern of the "form" response your friend received from Senator Boxer's office. Unfortunately, you are not alone and this happens more than it should. With the amount of email that Senator Boxer’s office no doubt receives, it might be difficult for her office staff to respond directly to each constituent. However, if you’d like to make sure that she made note of your concerns regarding the legislation, you could call her office and ask to speak to her Health Legislative Aide, Cerin Lindgrensavage at: (202) 224-3553. You can also contact or visit the local office: Los Angeles Office: 312 North Spring Street, Suite 1748 Los Angeles, California 90012 Phone: (213) 894-5000 Sometimes a personalized email/letter (not just the guided letter AADE provides) or a phone call go a lot farther when communicating with your Members of Congress. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact me directly: James Specker, AADE Advocacy Specialist

This is the response a friend of mine got from our senator after writing to her about the DSMT Act 2011. He was disappointed with the generic response, as was I. Thank you for taking the time to write and share your views with me. Your comments will help me continue to represent you and other Californians to the best of my ability. Be assured that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate considers legislation on this or similar issues. If you would like additional information about my work in the U.S. Senate, I invite you to visit my website, From this site, you can send a message to me about current events or pending legislation, access my statements and press releases, request copies of legislation and government reports, and receive detailed information about the many services that I am privileged to provide for my constituents. You may also wish to visit to track current and past federal legislation. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate hearing from you. United States Senator
