Revved Up From Indy

Oct 06, 2017

Summer flew by and we’re starting to see the leaves change into a beautiful, multi-colored vision. When we come back from conferences, we’re full of ideas to implement, our notebooks bursting with fresh insight and things we “definitely need to do now!” But once we’re back in the office, there’s the barrage of emails to wade through, patients to see and fires to put out. We often put innovation on the back burner to just get through the necessary day-to-day tasks.

Here’s your reminder to take 15 minutes this week and reflect on your notes from AADE17 in Indianapolis. What did you learn? What fresh ideas did you have? Then pick one to start using right away.

To help refresh your memory, here’s a recap of AADE17.

There were 2,910 professionals in attendance and 188 exhibitors – thank you to everyone who made it to Indianapolis! If you weren’t able to attend, check out the AADE17 Sessions on Demand for 20 of the most popular sessions.

The week began with five preconference courses, which were all in high demand. Thursday evening we hosted the second annual #DSMA Live Twitter Chat with Cherise Shockley and co-host Scott Johnson, who facilitated a thought-provoking conversation between diabetes educators at the conference and people with diabetes through the Diabetes Online Community (#DOC). More educators than previous years tweeted throughout the conference and shared their practice pearls, blowing up the hashtag #AADE17!

We had over 100 education sessions on topics from technology, to psychosocial issues, to reimbursement, clinical management and more. As in previous years, we dedicated one day each to type 1 diabetes and prediabetes, with education sessions in each time slot on their respective days. For more of a refresher, look at and download the session slides.

On Sunday, August 6, we announced the work we’ve been doing to create a technology institute for AADE members. It will provide you with a one-stop resource for all things related to diabetes technology.

Don’t forget to claim your CE credit if you haven’t already!

Your enthusiasm at the conference (in person and on Twitter), and your evaluations shows us we’re doing something right. Thank you for making it an incredible experience.
