Partnership with Lions Club

Nov 20, 2019

Help Lions Club International and AADE fight diabetes. Start by finding out what Lions and Leo clubs are already working in your community (club finder) and how they are advancing efforts to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes and improve the quality of life for people with diabetes. Across the country, Lions clubs are supporting camps for children with type 1 diabetes, sponsoring participants in diabetes prevention programs, and holding Strides: Lions for Diabetes Awareness events. If you’re not already connected to your local Lions, reach out to see how you can get involved. Provide information about your DSMES program at their next Strides event or volunteer to speak at a Lions club meeting about your diabetes prevention program. By talking at your local Lions club, you may identify some eligible participants, a willing community-based lifestyle coach, or even a program site for your next class!

Lions are also interested in increasing their knowledge of prediabetes and diabetes. Let them know about upcoming AADE webinars, CB and LNG events, and other opportunities to learn more about diabetes. Share AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors™ tip sheets, and other information, from AADE’s website. By making sure Lions and Leo clubs are sharing accurate information, and connecting community members to your programs, you can truly be partners in service to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes and improve the quality of life for those living with diabetes.
