Ways to highlight your Coordinating Body or Community of Interest at AADE 2017

May 12, 2017

Involvement within AADE and the COIs has been a true highlight of my career in pharmacy and diabetes education thus far. I have the opportunity to work with and meet wonderful colleagues within and outside of pharmacy, and I get to share and gain knowledge regarding the world of diabetes and pharmacy. As I stated in my recent post to the COI Leadership page on MY AADE NETWORK, I always look forward to the Annual Meeting, especially the COI and CB related events. These events include the networking event, the poster sessions, and the COI leader meeting.

The networking event will be held this year from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 3rd. This event is a great way to kick-off the Annual Meeting. AADE members are able to visit each CB and COI table to learn more about the different groups and ways to get involved. The event is a great way to highlight your group and increase member involvement. This event is extremely beneficial to the COIs as it provides a time for COI members and leaders to meet each other face to face. Since COIs are generally online groups this interaction is vital and greatly appreciated. Each CB and COI can decorate their table however they like, which adds to the fun of the event! I highly recommend representing your CB or COI at this event and don’t forget to bring your banner (if applicable), information regarding your CB or COI, any paraphernalia you may have to give away (MY AADE NETWORK Store has some really cool items), and of course your decor. Also, consider having a signup sheet so you can identify members wanting to become more involved within your group. Register your CB or COI today! The deadline is June 14, 2017. CB and COI Networking Event

Poster sessions are another great event. Not only can you read about and meet those advancing and innovating diabetes care and education, you can highlight specific research done by those involved in your CB or COI. I highly recommend attending the poster sessions. The deadline has passed for submissions this year, but it’s never too early to start brainstorming ideas for AADE 2018.

Lastly, I am looking forward to the COI leader meeting being held Friday, August 4th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. I look forward to meeting with the current COI leaders and the amazing AADE staff to discuss leadership strategies, lessons learned, and best discussion topics. Karen Kemmis, AADE Board Member, will discuss tips on blogging.  Don’t miss out on this meeting to engage and be energized with other COI leaders.

I hope you are able to attend the Annual Meeting and some of the COI events being held throughout the meeting.

Please do not hesitate to contact AADE if you have any questions regarding the above events or additional events being held at AADE 2017.
