Why You Should Apply for MAC Co-Facilitator

Nov 12, 2018

If you are reading this, it is because you care. You play an integral part as a volunteer in the organization and it is a sign of your commitment. I, like many of you, strongly believe in the spirit volunteerism. I remember going door to door to collect money for this or that charity (it was the 60’s and 70’s—when people did that), being a scout because my mom was a scout leader and den mother, singing at nursing homes, and being a candy striper at the very hospital that I am sitting in now.

Both my parents and grandparents were active volunteers and you could find the family stuffing raffles into envelopes, working at bazaars and carnivals, and driving together for meals on wheels. We were taught to leave the world a better place than we found it through actions, giving anonymously and teaching others. Being active and engaged at AADE allows me to do that on both a personal and professional levels.

This year has been a roller coaster for me. I was honored to become the co-leader for the diabetes technology group, a DANA champion, the new President of the Connecticut Alliance of Diabetes Educators and on the Member Affiliates Council (MAC). I have raised my hand to help out because that is what we should all do when we can. I sit here writing this at the bedside of my mom who has stage 4 lung cancer. I know that I am following in her footsteps and that she is very proud of all that I have done even though she can no longer tell me that. She has set the example by doing for others and has lived a life that she can be proud of because she has made a difference. Babies have outfits to go home in, hospitals have infrastructure and surgical suites have beds to operate in because my mom, a dietitian like many of you, volunteered and raised money to provide for others and I proudly continue in her footsteps

If you are interested in serving as a MAC co-facilitator, please e-mail volunteer engagement at and indicate whether you are a CB or COI leader and the name of your group.
