Diabetes Prevention Program

There are 84.1 million Americans, or one in three adults, who have prediabetes. While there are thousands of CDC-recognized organizations across the country that offer the lifestyle change program to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes, there are still many areas with few or no programs.

The CDC has awarded AADE a five-year cooperative agreement (CDC-DP17-1705) to bring the National DPP to under served populations. Efforts under this funding include working with truckers and other at-risk populations including Hispanic, African American and Native American communities.

By funding a select group of 12 organizations, we will work to expand the National DPP delivery infrastructure and close the enrollment gap so that more participants with prediabetes can complete the CDC lifestyle change program. Other initiatives will focus on truck drivers, who tend to have higher rates of type 2 diabetes and can be at risk of losing their jobs. To reach this predominantly male, mobile population, eligible participants will receive a virtual version of the lifestyle change program.
