AADE develops, publishes and disseminates information to help guide the practice and performance of diabetes educators. These are important resources for anyone that provides diabetes education or wishes to learn more about it.

In addition to defining the scope, role and minimal level of quality performance for the diabetes educator, this important document differentiates diabetes education as a distinct healthcare specialty, promotes diabetes self-management training (DSMT) as an integral part of diabetes care, and facilitates excellence in DSMT.
AADE collaborated with the American Diabetes Association and other organizations to revise the 2007 National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. AADE was a co-convener of the revision process.
