Developed and updated by JDRF, this online resource will help people living with type 1 diabetes navigate their insurance choices, understand their options and learn how to obtain prior authorizations and file exceptions and appeals.

diaTribe, an online publication designed for people with diabetes but also very useful to diabetes care and education specialists, developed a series of articles that explain the whys and hows of insurance coverage, workplace benefits and Medicare, and offers practical tips on saving money on medications.

Step therapy or “fail first” policies can adversely impact people with diabetes by limiting access to prescribed medication, delaying appropriate treatment and directly contributing to negative outcomes. Step therapy also undermines the unique treatment needs of individuals in order to reduce pharmacy costs and creates unnecessary barriers to individuals accessing prescribed medications in a timely manner. Patient Assistance Resources from Lilly
Lilly is offering a helpline for people needing assistance with affording their insulin. Call 833.808.1234 between the hours of 9:00 am and 8:00 pm (ET), Monday through Friday.
Lilly also offers a variety of resources to help people with diabetes afford their medications. They include discount programs at pharmacies, prescription savings cards, and helpful information and a checklist for transitioning to Medicare. Also available to those prescribed Trulicity: New resource to learn about the medication’s list price, average out-of-pocket costs and patient assistance programs.
